Mum is 99 in July this year. She lived in Aigburth, and on the way to school passed the burning shell of St Luke's Church. Her class had to go to the school shelter when an air raid disrupted an exam. Leaving school she worked for the Civil Service, above the Atlantic War Rooms until she was old enough to join the WRNS. She had to undergo extra security clearance in Leeds before she was transferred to work with the Japanese ciphers at Bletchley Park. The Wrens were billeted in Woburn Abbey and she slept in the servants quarters at the top of the house, hearing the Pere David deer in the surrounding park.
