Bernard Bubb's Journey Through Love and War

online resource

My father was Gunner Bernard Bubb, Royal Artillery, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He served in the 8th Army in Egypt, Iraq, Palestine and then up into Italy before ending up in South Africa. I have attached a photo of him and his close comrades when they were stationed in Iraq.

He was very much in love with his wife-to-be, Bunty, and I have included a love letter from him to her.

He and his comrades were shipped, at one stage, for rest and recuperation, to South Africa. Also included is a manual on anti-aircraft ammunition that he kept all those years till his death.

Lastly, there is an Italian/English dictionary, well-worn from use when he spent time in Italy helping to push the Germans back and I believe he was wounded near to Anzio and shipped out to a hospital ship lying off the coast. The Xmas menu at the 63rd Field Hospital signed on the back by a lot of his comrades, when they were in Egypt in 1944 after, I believe, he was brought back from Anzio.
