Andrew Campbell, RAMC, and Gladys Burnett, Civil Defence

The contributor's father, Andrew Campbell, was born 17/11/1917.

In March 1943, he joined the military. At the age of 23, he joined the 1st Scottish Division [sic]. Later, he became an ambulance driver and stretcher carrier. He was at D-Day and went up through France, Holland and Germany.

Once the war in Europe ended, he was sent to India and eventually went to Australia on a hospital ship.

He was eventually demobbed in 1946 and settled down to married life. He didn't discuss his war experiences with his children. He died in his late 60s.
