Agnes (known as Nancy) Maltman was a wireless operator in the Air Force and was stationed at RAF Wick throughout WWII. She was originally from Glasgow. She married John Maltman in 1943 in Glasgow. They had met and got engaged before the war. She managed to leave the Air Force so she could marry John. He was also in the RAF (aircraft engineer) and was about to be stationed in Ceylon. She remembers writing letters home in a quiet room where the Fisherman's Mission is in Wick now. Her family remembers the kindness of two ladies in the Mackay's Hotel, and also the owners of the Nethercliffe Hotel, who were so kind to them when they came up to visit Nancy, and so kind to service personnel serving in Caithness. Years later, Nancy and John Maltman settled in Wick after their daughter moved there with her family.
