A Trevett in the Royal Artillery, 1939-45

During the Second World War, Ernest Trevett served with the Royal Artillery from 1939 to 1945. Rising from the rank of Gunner to Lance Sergeant during the conflict, he served in a number of different artillery units stationed at various locations around the UK.

These included 155th Heavy Regiment, R.A. in Portsmouth, 201st Heavy Battery, R.A., Moncrieff, Scotland, 357th Coastal Battery, R.A., Pembrokeshire, and 'A' Battery, 620th Regiment, R.A. on the newly liberated island of Jersey in 1945.

Ernest regularly communicated with his family including his wife, Phyllis, sending photographs, postcards and souvenirs such as the Jersey Weekly Post's 'Liberation Supplement and Souvenir of the Royal Visit in June/May 1945.

Ernest received the 1939-45 War Medal, the Defence Medal and the 1939-45 Star for his service throughout the war, and he kept his Royal Artillery cap badge and insignia after leaving the Army.
