Thomas Jacobs started in the Northamptonshire Regiment before transferring (after being wounded) to the York and Lancaster regiment. Thomas was wounded on 2 October 1918. He received a Silver War Badge and a pension of 8 shillings. Although he had shell shock, his sergeant told him to walk up a hill or face execution for disobeying orders.

He married his wife, Clara, the night before he went to France. He was later awarded an Imperial Service Medal by George VI.
