Arthur Charles William Frost was the contributor's wife's grandfather. He lied about his age to join the army before the Boer War. One of the submitted items is a photo of Arthur in South Africa with his friend 'Boss' (Arthur is on the right).

During the First World War, Arthur was part of the 9th Queen's Royal Lancers and took part in the last cavalry battle of the war. He was wounded three times, but he claimed that he as never wounded while riding a horse. He died at the age of ninety.
