927: Arthur Victor Headland and brothers (photograph)
This is a photograph of my grandfather, Arthur Victor Headland (B 1897 D, 1980) and two of his brothers, including Albert Sugden, Hampshire Regiment and previously Hampshire Yeomanry (Carabineers). They took their horses off them and re-badged them to Infantry.
On the right of the photo is Isaac Edwin Headland (Ted) (B. 1894 D. 1949) of the Lincolnshire Regiment. The brothers survived the war but were all wounded. Ted's son, Albert, was a Sgt Fighter Pilot with 112 Sqn and died in 1945 in a flying accident. He is buried in Udene, Italy in the British Military Cemetery. The family was from Louth, Lincolnshire but by World War One had moved to Convamore Road, Grimsby. There is another brother, Percy Sugden (Labour then GS Corps), who is missing from the photo.
