Leonard Wallace Batt - known as Wallace - joined the Grenadier Guards in February 1916. He was the son of Thomas William and Katherine Cox Batt who lived at Church End, Kelshall Royston, Hertfordshire. Leonard died on 31st July 1917 he has no known grave so his name is on the Menin Gate. He had a younger sister Jessie to whom he wrote long letters. Jessie received a letter from her mother whilst on holiday, telling her of Leonard's death. Leonard only received two medals for war service and service abroad.
