Sidney Brown joined the Sherwood Foresters in 1915, and sent letters home from training camps in Northumberland and Southampton. He writes about shooting at Zeppelins over the coast of north-east England and thanks his mother for sending jam tarts as a treat. He is accepting of having to fight and possibly kill German soldiers. The final letter speaks about being shortly posted to France. His name is on the Thiepval memorial.
