8957: Top of a Sergeant's cane

online resource
posted on 2024-01-12, 12:10 authored by Lest We Forget Project Team

In 1987, the contributor was on a school trip to the Rollright Stones on the Oxfordshire/Warwickshire border. She saw a glimmering object and took it home. She polished it and discovered that it was the top of a sergeant's kane. The contributor has not been able to determine the original owner.

Finding the object convinced the contributor to study history and archaeology at school and university.
