8922: Joseph Arthur Richards, Royal Warwickshire Regt

online resource
posted on 2024-01-12, 12:10 authored by Lest We Forget Project Team

Joseph Arthur Richards was born in 1893 in Kent. Before the war, he was a policeman from a relatively well-off family. His father was headmaster at an elementary school and his mother was sub-post mistress at the Post Office in Shustoke, Birmingham, where the family lived.

Joseph joined 1/8 Royal Warwickshire Regiment as a sergeant. One family member believed that Joseph was killed by a sniper, but the contributor was not sure if this was true. It is now known that Joseph was killed when the 25th Battalion captured Landrecies on 4 November 1918 (or 1917?). Joseph is buried in the British Cemetery at Landrecies (Grave A-31).
