Manuscript in pencil in Ivor Gurney's hand. Two other manuscript drafts of 'Eternal Treasure' exist. One was included in a letter to Marion Scott of 24th August 1917, and all 3 drafts remain consistent. Another manuscript draft of 'The Poplar' can be found in a letter of September 1918 to Marion Scott. Written while Gurney was a patient at the Middlesex War Hospital. Both poems were included in 'War's Embers' (1919). Found in a coverless notebook used by Gurney from late August to mid-September 1918.

The poem was sent to Marion Scott in a letter of c.11 September 1918. Gurney also composed a musical setting of a version of this poem, for two voices. Included in 'War's Embers' (1919).
