Manuscript draft in pencil with corrections in Ivor Gurney's hand. The poem was sent to Marion Scott in a letter of 10th September 1918. Included in 'War's Embers' (1919). Written while Gurney was a patient at the Middlesex War Hospital. Found in a coverless notebook used by Gurney from late August to mid-September 1918.
