James Taylor served in the Royal Marines as a bandmaster. He was killed in action at the Battle of Jutland. KIA 31 May 1916, HMS Queen Mary, Battle of Jutland.

William Taylor (brother of James) served in the Royal Navy prior to the war. However, he served in the Royal Artillery during the war.
