8563: Arthur Thomas

Regular soldier served in South Africa and India. Volunteered with Essex regiment in Harwich but left the army a year before the outbreak of war so re-joined.

Arthur and his wife had one child. They lived in Harwich. They later had 2 more children.

Arthur fought with the Essex Regiment in the Somme and looked after the horses that pulled the guns. He was only there for 3 weeks before he was sent back to Worley Camp where he delivered mail for a year and a half.

Died in 1922 at Severalls Hospital, Colchester. Reason for death is unknown.
