Albert Edward Lord was the youngest of 6 children, born in Halifax, Yorkshire. The chess set was used in the trenches and there is also a sketchbook with drawings by Albert Lord which he drew during the war. There is a photograph which was torn into pieces and pieced back together.
He served in France and Belgium and was wounded in action and repatriated to a hospital in Sheffield where he died of his wounds (April 1918). He was later buried in Halifax.
