7757: John Paterson of the Scots Guards

John Paterson joined the Scots Guards at the beginning of the war, and would travel to Algeria.

His family business, Park & Paterson Ltd, based in the Parkhead area of Glasgow, manufactured cartridge brass for shells, gun cartridges and non-ferrous materials for the war effort. He would go on to work there after the war.

Object(s)

A photograph of John Paterson in uniform after joining the Scots Guards at the beginning of the war. Also included is a copy of a photograph of the Park & Paterson factory, the family business that manufactured shells, gun cartridges and non-ferrous materials for the war effort. The photograph was taken in 1972 on its centenary, and would cease trading in 1986. John Paterson would go on to work there after the war. A passport photograph of John Paterson was taken before he travelled to Algeria to assess a possible source of copper for refining.
