Born in August 1899, Robert James joined up in August 1915 at the age of 15, informing the Army that he was 18. A member of the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles - Regiment No: 265924), he saw action in France then Gallipoli, and was in Egypt in 1916. He was wounded at some stage of his service.

Object(s)

Robert James' collection includes a letting listing the places that the Cameronians had travelled to. Another, addressed to his parents, is written from Machine Gun School. A series of photographs show Robert James in uniform, pictured on the right in both group shots. One photograph was taken the day before he joined up with the army.
