My great uncle, William John Churchill, was in the Somerset Light Infantry and fought in the Battle of the Somme. He was injured 3 times and had two of his toes taken off. He was sent back to fight and was killed within two weeks. He died at Delville Wood. William is mentioned on the Thiepval memorial.
