<p dir="ltr">This story has been passed down from the contributor's grandmother, who did not really speak about the war. </p><p dir="ltr">David Alexander died while trying to defuse a German bomb. His daughter remembers her mother receiving the telegram. </p><p dir="ltr">David left four sons and a daughter. Two of the sons had to work to provide for the family. Their uncles paid for David's daughter to go to private school. </p><p dir="ltr">The contributor's grandmother's two brothers also died in the war.</p>
