<p dir="ltr">A title page to 'Undertones of War'. A formal Japanese character drawn in red is in the centre of the title page. This is 'Blunden' written phonetically in Japanese, using katakana (syllabary used for foreign words) - bu-ra-n-de-n. It's made by a seal (inkan or hanko) - still used instead of signatures in Japan.</p><p>At the bottom is written the years 1924, 1925 and 1926. In red and black ink. 'The Undertones of War' has been changed to 'Undertones of War'. In the corner is a note in Edmund Blunden's hand 'Qu: will this title do, or do we look for another?'</p>
