A title page to 'Undertones of War'. A formal Japanese character drawn in red is in the centre of the title page. This is 'Blunden' written phonetically in Japanese, using katakana (syllabary used for foreign words) - bu-ra-n-de-n. It's made by a seal (inkan or hanko) - still used instead of signatures in Japan.

At the bottom is written the years 1924, 1925 and 1926. In red and black ink. 'The Undertones of War' has been changed to 'Undertones of War'. In the corner is a note in Edmund Blunden's hand 'Qu: will this title do, or do we look for another?'
