Photographs of trenches and the areas in between; the surrounding dykes; a dugout where 'the occupants where envied'; and soldiers posing by trenches 'before we came - but much the same.' The book was compiled by Edmund Blunden with the intention of providing complementary photographs supporting the narrative and poems of 'Undertones of War' (1928), and was inscribed 'E.B. New Year, 1935' while Blunden was living in North Oxford, a neighbour of Graham Greene.
