<p dir="ltr">Manuscript in pen in Ivor Gurney's hand. The version shown here is shorter than the one included in the manuscript notebook inscribed 'Best Poems' 45457, and included in P.J. Kavanagh's 'Ivor Gurney: Collected Poems' (2004), and in Edmund Blunden's and Leonard Clark's editions of Gurneys poems in 1954 and 1973 respectively. Written while Gurney was either at Barnwood House asylum, Gloucester (September-December 1922) or Stone House, Dartford, Kent (the City of London Mental Hospital where Gurney stayed from December 1922 until his death).</p>
