Manuscript in pen in Ivor Gurney's hand. Various version of the poem exist, as in the pink notebook 64.1. The draft shown here is shortened. Line 8's 'cloths of heaven' is a reference to a W.B. Yeats poem containing the line 'Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths...'. Found in a green hard-covered manuscript exercise book, marked 'The Note Book / (between music makings) / of Ivor Gurney / 1921-1922 / 'corrected Feb 1925' / 'Ivor Gurney''.
