Manuscript in pen in Marion Scott's hand. 'Smudgy Dawn' was printed combined with another poem ('Laventie Dawn') in 'The London Mercury' and 'SquireSMP' in 1924 and in Leonard Clark's edition of Ivor Gurney's poems in 1973. In published editions of Gurney's poetry 'Old Tale' exists under the title 'Daily - Old Tale'.
