Typescript prepared by Marion Scott with pencil notations in an unknown hand. The title is after a poem by the American poet Walt Whitman. The 'Michael' of line 6 is a reference to the Archangel who barred Adam and Eve from Paradise. Included in the Edmund Blunden edition of Ivor Gurney's poems published in 1954 as well as the Appendix to P.J. Kavanagh's 'Ivor Gurney: Collected Poems' (2004).
