64: Collection of Postcards

online resource
posted on 2024-01-11, 15:27 authored by Lest We Forget Project Team

These postcards were handmade by women in Belgium and France. Some have embroidered inscriptions: 'With love, from Dad', 'Dear wife', for example. They were found at various antique/vintage shops and sales.

I (Brain Cross) have collected several hundred of these postcards. I first started collecting these (and many other objects relating to the First World War) because I wanted to know as much as possible about my grandfather and his experiences during the First World War. A father of five children, he had volunteered to fight. He was killed on 15 September 1916, after just 11 days in France.
