6478: John Reid, who threw his medals away

online resource
posted on 2024-01-17, 17:23 authored by Lest We Forget Project Team

John Reid was my great, great uncle. At 16 years old John fought in the Battle of the Somme; he was at war for 4 years. The only injury he received was a gunshot wound to the arm.

John threw out all his medals and memories of the war after he returned, only keeping anti-war propaganda.

During the Second World War he refused to fight and help with the home guard.
