William Binning's application to join the army, declaring him 'fit' to serve. William applied for a commission in the army in November 1914. He had been eighteen in September. He was appointed as a Second Lieutenant to the 11th Battalion The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). 2nd Lieutenant William B. Binning (1896 - 1916), Scottish Rifles 9th Div. Machine Gun Corps, 28th Bn.
