<p dir="ltr">This letter is from the son of Horace Foakes to his family. It describes how a famous photograph of a group of soldiers (13th BN Royal Fusiliers) was taken after their advance on the Somme on the 7th July 1916.</p> <p>The photograph has been contributed separately to the archive, along with Horace Foakes memoirs of how he won his military medal.</p>
