This letter is from the son of Horace Foakes to his family. It describes how a famous photograph of a group of soldiers (13th BN Royal Fusiliers) was taken after their advance on the Somme on the 7th July 1916.

The photograph has been contributed separately to the archive, along with Horace Foakes memoirs of how he won his military medal.
