Annie Renton Grieg was born in England on 22nd February 1885. She was a daughter of Thomas Hutchison Grieg, a minister, and Alice Renton Grieg (nee Bapty). Annie was a nurse during and after the First World War.

During the conflict she was a nurse at a tented hospital near Chanteloup, Troyes, France.
