Photo and story of Alfred William Hawkins Able Seaman 235441 who served in the Royal Navy throughout WW1. The photo submitted is one of several I have of my grandfather on several different ships. He survived the war.


Editor's Comment:
AB Hawkins here wears the cap tally of HMS "Black Prince". The cruiser "Black Prince" was sunk at the battle of Jutland, 31st May 1916, with the loss of all hands.

Able Seaman 235441 Alfred William Hawkins, Royal Navy, born Walworth, London, 18th February 1890. He served on board HMS Dominion from 1914 to 1917 and on HMS Skirmisher in the Dardanelles in 1918.
