6051: Sgt. James (Jim) Clelland Gillies (457733)

<p dir="ltr">James (Jim) Clelland Gillies was born 16 January 1892 in the small mining village of East Benhar, West Lothian, Scotland. His family relocated several times throughout the West Lothian and Lanarkshire localities and at the time of enlisted Jim was employed as a Coal Miner living at 50 Budhill Avenue, Shettleston, Glasgow. He enlisted on 13 November 1914 and served with Royal Field Artillery, serving in France. He was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field, as well as the British War and Victory Medal. On enlistment, Jim's rank was Private, however he steadily rose to the rank of Sergeant and would see active service between 26 September 1915 to 4 October 1918. </p>
