These are pictures of my grandfather, always known as Albert. Born 1898 and lived in Manchester

Editor's Comment:
Pte. 39261 Albert J. Cochrane, Manchester Regiment, transferred to the Royal Welsh Fusiliers (regt. number 59572), ending the war as a Sapper in the Royal Engineers (regt. number 242522).

The photograph to the right shows Pte. Cochrane with the capbadge of the Manchester Regiment (his first unit). That to the left with the capbadge of the Royal Engineers and shoulder title of a Territorial Force Royal Engineer unit (though the name is indistinct). The middle photograph shows Sapper Cochrane still in the Royal Engineers, but with the patch of the 9th (Scottish) Division on his shoulders, implying that by this time he had transferred to the 62nd, 63rd, or 90th Field companies (or possibly the 9th Divisional Signal Company).
