British First World War No. 82 Fuze, made in the Royal Laboratories (Royal Arsenal at Woolwich) in 1911. This type of time and percussion fuze, of which there were four marks, was used in conjunction with the 4.5 in Howitzer Shrapnel shell (this information kindly provided by Mr Martin Garnett of the Imperial War Museum, based on sight of the attached images).
This artefact was prepared as a door stop by a great uncle (of the Gloucestershire Regiment) as a memento for my great grandmother.
