Sergeant Edward Ernest Watson (2110 1/4th Battalion London Regiment Royal Fusiliers) fought in South Africa, and was a reservist when the First World War was declared and re-joined very early on. He died at the Battle of Ginchy, on the Somme, on 9 September 1916. His name is recorded on the Thiepval Memorial as there is no known grave for him. He would have been the brother of John Porter's grandfather.
