The Welsh Dragon Memorial commemorates the attacks on Mametz wood by the Welsh battalions in the period 7th to 12th July 1916. The dragon is facing portion of Mametz Wood which was attacked by the 13th, 14th, 15th & 16th battalions of the Royal Welch Fusiliers of the 38th (Welsh) Division as they descended from the cliff across Happy Valley on 10th July 1916.
