<p dir="ltr">Acknowledgment note issued by Buckingham Palace, sent on the death of Private Evan Hawkes of the 9th Durham Light Infantry. The note reads: "I join with my grateful people in sending you this memorial of a brave life given for others in the Great War", and is signed "George R.I."</p>
