55901: Early one morning

online resource
posted on 2024-04-25, 17:30 authored by First World War Poetry Digital Archive Project Team

The poem reflects Edward Thomas' lifelong interest in folk songs. It is also a reaction to the upheaval caused by the loss of his hill-top study in Steep and the family's move to Essex. The manuscript is untitled but is labeled 'Early one morning in May I set out 'in Edward Thomas Collected Poems'.
