A treasured memory, very simple yet an example of the many family personal momentoes cherished by relatives of loved ones who went off to fight. This is my grandmother's best friend, Sarah or Sally as she was known, with either her beloved fiance, Frederick Jesse Brammer, or her brother, I'm not sure which, who was killed in action. If it was her fiance, Fred, he was still alive to witness my grandmothers wedding in 25 august 1917. I have much to do to glean from my aunt's memories but it appears he is in full kit and possiby attached to some medical unit.

Editor's Comment:
The man pictured wears the Canadian Service Dress uniform of the Canadian Army Medical Corps (with General Service cap and collar badges, and Red Cross arm badge). Attempts to trace Frederick Brammer or Sarah Bannfield's brother to the Canadian Expeditionary Force have so far proved inconclusive.

It is not known whether the red tint of the picture is original.
