Inscription on reverse - Brigade Hqtrs, behind the trenches at Anzac [initials] JCT [Joseph Cecil Thompson]. This photograph was most probably taken, or perhaps collected, by 494 Sergeant Joseph Cecil Thompson of the 9th Battalion 1st AIF during his service at Galliopli and in Egypt. It is inscribed on the back in his handwriting.

Editor's Comment:
Most likely 3rd Brigade Headquaters: the 9th Bn., as part of 3rd Brg. Australian Imperial Force, were the first to land at the ANZAC beachead on Gallipoli, 25th April 1915.
