54809: Photo of Norman Cole
Norman Cole (and Reg Cole) was cousin of Charles W. Carr. Tony Carr, Charles' son, records that Norman Frank Ewart Cole (service no. 10406, Lance Corporal, 5th Bn. Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry) was killed in action 15 September 1916 aged 23. There is a memorial to him in Cheltenham Salem Baptist Church. Born in Cheltenham, the son of Abraham Noden Cole and Minnie Rosetta Cole, of 12, Clarence Square, Cheltenham (the Commonwealth War Graves Commission erroneously records him as being the son of Joseph Andrew and Lettie Marian Cole of Lyndale, Rochfield Rd., Hereford). Enlisted Oxford. Killed at the Battle of Flers-Courcelette, Somme Sector, the first occassion tanks were used to support infantry. No known grave, his name is on the Thiepval Memorial.
