Sergeant Charles W. Carr is standing in the rear row, third from left. This photo is also reproduced in the official history of the regiment 'The story of the 2/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment 1914-1918' by A.F. Barnes MC, Gloucester: The Crypt House Press, Ltd. 1930. There it is described as taken July 1917, with the title and location used here. However the note on the revese of this photograph is "Taken 27 June 1917" signed by Charles Carr. In the book RSM WW Spragg and RQMS ARN Joseland are also identified in the centre of the photograph.

Note that two photographs seem to have been taken of this group at the same sitting. The other photograph has a note to the rear indicating that they may have been taken in Ireland.

Part of large collection of photos and memoribilia relating to Serjeant 3091 (later 240965) Charles Woodward Carr, 2/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment - kept by Mrs Gill Porter and Mr Tony Carr of their father.
