The letter home to his wife was written by Bertie Ling of the 2nd Rifle Brigade. He was killed in the early hours of the following morning as reported in the letter from the Rev'd Edmund B Potts.


Editor's Comment:
Rifleman S/28530 Bertie Ling, 2nd Bn. Rifle Brigade, was killed in action 8th July 1917, aged 34. The husband of Annie Josephine Ling, of 1, Lower Quay St., Gloucester, he is buried in Belgian Battery Corner Cemetery.
