Fixing a Bombing Post - Tunnel Trench. He wrote a long letter to his wife shortly afterwards making light of the event (letter submitted separately). Two tins in his haversack deflected a bullet but his Corporal was wounded. He and another soldier got him back safely.
Editor's Comment: Certificate regarding 'Gallant Conduct and Devotion to Duty in the Field', Spper Grantham's 'name and deed to be entered in the record of the Irish Division'. Signed by Major General W. Hickie, commanding 16th Irish Division. Green Shamrock seperately stamped to top right.
Sapper 146217 Ernest Grantham, 156th Field Company, Royal Engineers. The 156th Field Coy. were attached to the 16th (Irish) Division.
