Typescript published in 'Verses of a V.A.D.' (1918) and 'Poems of the War and After' (1934)" Versions also published in 'St Monica's School Notes', 1915-1916 in October 1916 and 'Oxford Magazine', 11 May 1917. Brittain was stationed on the hospital ship the HMHS Britannic, at Mudros Bay, Lemnos in 1916 when she saw the graves of three Canadian sisters who died nursing in the camp hospital there.
