My grandfather, John Pearcy (no. 36033), second from left of the seated lads, with comrades of the 13th battalion West Yorkshire Regiment during training in the UK. Grandfather enlisted in June 1916 and after training he was posted to the BEF at Etaples camp in France, then to the 6th Battalion KOYLI (no.35519). When this battalion disbanded he ended up in the 3rd London Royal Fusiliers. He survived the great war but lost his leg during shelling in the Bleharies area of Belgium, October 31st 1918.
