Typescript. The poem recalls the holiday spent by Edward Thomas and his family with the family of the American poet Robert Frost while he was in England in Herefordshire in 1914. The occasion was likely the receipt of a letter from Frost on 21 May 1916 after a long period of silence. The manuscript is untitled but is labeled 'The sun used to shine' in 'Edward Thomas Collected Poems'.
