The interesting point here is that my father (Pte Hewett) wears no puttees. He was excused these on the grounds that he suffered from eczema. The army was perhaps more sympathetic than we like to think. Notice also the cap badge of the Paschal lamb or 'lamb and flag', which gave the 1/22nd Battalion, London Regiment (The Queen's) their nickname: The mutton lancers.
